This poppy seed bread is like a pound cake. It has a rich buttery, sweet flavor. The orange, almond glaze adds a great citrus flavor to the bread.  Brushing the warm glaze over the warm bread

Ingredients

  • Bread
  • 2 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 1/8 cups cooking oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon poppy seeds
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
  • Glaze
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted

Instructions

  1. For bread
  2. Preheat oven to 350
  3. Mix sugar, oil and eggs, add milk. Mix. Combine remaining ingredients to egg mixture until combined. Pour into 2 greased and floured loaf pans. I cut a piece of wax paper the size of the bottom the loaf pan and then grease and flour pan. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean. If you use a dark metal pan bake for less time.
  4. For Glaze
  5. Combine all ingredients in small saucepan and cook on stove over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Remove bread from pans and pour warm glaze over warm bread. I put a cooling rack over a sheet pan and with a spoon take the glaze that has run off and put it up and over the warm bread until it stays on.
